Sustainability on the Road Trade Masterclass STRICTLY BY INVITATION ONLY

Time & Location

09 Jun 2026, 11:00 – 13:00

Riddles Court, 322 Lawnmarket, Edinburgh EH1 2PG, UK

About the event

The Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Programme will be embarking on a roadshow — Sustainability on the Road — and make its debut stop in Edinburgh on June 9 at Riddle’s Court (EH1 2PG), from 11am to 1pm.

Don’t miss the chance to take part in an exclusive masterclass where renowned wine critic and writer Jamie Goode will present a curated line-up of wines from Alentejo, all certified under its award-winning sustainability programme. Alongside, João Barroso, Wines of Alentejo’s Sustainability Director, will share insights into the sustainability practices of each producer, as well as what makes the Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Programme (WASP) a global benchmark for sustainability in wine, from vineyard to shelf.

This is a rare opportunity to explore the diversity, excellence, and sustainability leadership of Portugal’s Alentejo region, the number one region in terms of sales in Portugal, and to see how Alentejo is combining science-based solutions with tradition and excellence in winemaking, setting a global reference point for sustainability.

About WASP:

Launched in 2015, WASP was the first sustainability programme created by a Portuguese wine region and is today one of the most progressive initiatives of its kind in the wine industry. With a rigorous framework comprising more than 171 practical measures, 30% of the region’s vineyard area is now under certification.

WASP promotes environmentally responsible viticulture and winemaking, alongside social and economic sustainability. The programme encourages practices such as water conservation, biodiversity protection, energy efficiency, and responsible vineyard management, reflected in its multiple international awards — most recently the V d’Or 2024 for “Best Joint Initiative”, recognising its contribution to innovation, heritage, and the future of viticulture and winemaking.

To find out more about the Alentejo and its potential, we invite you to check out Nick Breeze’s e-book, developed in collaboration with WASP, Into the Heat . We also invite you to check the region’s website: Wines of Alentejo, as well as their sustainability program here.
