We certainly had a very bubbly evening on 1 July for our Lidl Fizz on Friday. Along with Lidl's Lead Taster, Master of Wine Richard Bampfield we tasted through six popular sparkling wines from Lidl's range, scoring each as we went along.
With an audience of 30 all independently giving their comments and scores it was quite a unique event.
The winner was, perhaps not surprisingly, Lidl's Comte de Senneval Champagne.
The full results based on the average scores out of 5 were;

1. Comte de Senneval Champagne Brut NV, France (£12.49) scoring 4.4 2. Cava Amorany Gran Cuvée Brut NV, Spain (£7.49) scoring 4.1 3. Arestel Cava, Brut NV, Spain (£5.59) scoring 4 4. Pinot Noir Chardonnay 2019, Italy (£4.99) scoring 3.9

Joint 5th scoring 3.7 Prosecco Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG Extra Dry, Italy (£7.49) Winemaker’s Selection Marlborough Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc 2019, New Zealand (£8.99)
Interestingly had the Marlborough Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc received a score of 1 out of 5 by someone it would have come joint second place. Quite an achievement for this fizz made by the carbonated method.

The next Lidl Wine Tour launches on Thursday 23 July. To coincide with this, Richard Bampfield MW has selected some of his favourites and we’re going to be tasting the whites on Monday 27 July, followed by the reds on Monday 3 August.
