As part of the run-up to our fourth annual Fizz Feast on Saturday 16 November at Edinburgh Academy, we’re giving you a brief introduction to the fabulous food and fizz exhibitors lined up to tantalise taste buds and please palates.

You can’t say we don’t cater to all of the senses at Fizz Feast, particularly when we are welcoming back The Aroma Academy to test your sense of smell!  Having primarily worked with drinks producers, The Aroma Academy now has a ‘scent’-sational series of Sensory Self Learn Kits and Sensory Training Programmes as well as a selection of Aroma Games.

Founded in Scotland by developer Alan Gordon and scientist Dr George Dodd, The Aroma Academy brings scent and smell to life in ingenious ways for both industry specialists and wine enthusiasts. There are Aroma Academy ‘Nose Training’ kits for Wine, Whisky, Gin, Bourbon and Rum. Each kit is made up of a collection of vials containing an individual aroma in liquid form representing one of the elements found in each drink.  By dipping perfume strips into each vial you make up the aromas for certain styles of drinks such as wine, whisky or gin.  Whisky, for instance, will include vanilla and peat aromas. In the wine kit, you could pick out grass and team it with citrus, which gives you the makings of Sauvignon Blanc.  It's all quite ingenious, fascinating and quite frankly great fun.

Fun and informative, there is also a kit that focuses on the failings to look out for in drinks, such as what a corked wine smells like, or you can discover the characteristics of an ‘over-oaked’ wine or volatile acidity perhaps.

The kits will help you to challenge your senses time and again, and there is a clever collection of party games, which would be great fun at Christmas for all generations!

Fizz Feast is is a true Celebration of Sparkling Wine & Artisan Food on Saturday 16 November 2019 at The Edinburgh Academy, 42 Henderson Row, Edinburgh.
