As part of the run-up to our 4th annual Fizz Feast on Saturday 16 November at Edinburgh Academy, we’re giving you a brief introduction to the fabulous food and fizz exhibitors lined up to tantalise taste buds and please palates.
Today we're giving you a taster for Greyfriars Vineyard which is fast becoming one of the most well respected producers of exquisite English Sparkling Wine.

Nothing to do with Edinburgh folklore or shaggy dog tales, Greyfriars Vineyard is a small, family-run winemaking business set in the North Downs and renowned for its well-priced, award-winning English Sparkling Wine produced in the traditional bottle fermented method.

Despite not having a background in the wine industry, husband-and-wife team Mike and Hilary Wagstaff bought a 1.5-acre winery in 2010 and set about following their dream and building their boutique wine business. Hard work and dedication have paid off and the company has grown, with the couple now owning a 50-acre vineyard and producing more than 70,000 bottles a year of English Sparkling Wine in a state-of-the-art winery.

All of the wines are made by the traditional bottle-fermented method – in the same way as Champagne - and ageing takes place in a brand new 3,500-foot natural chalk cave which gives the perfect conditions required for this premium sparkling wine. Quality and attention to detail is key when it comes to Greyfriars, but one of the aims is to make the wines extremely good value for money.
The couple’s aim is to become a highly-regarded boutique producer of world-class sparkling wine. You can expect fresh, clean and aromatic tastes from wine which has been aged for at least 15 months on its lees to give plenty of depth of character.
Don't miss Greyfriars' Masterclass during the second session of Fizz Feast. This is most definitely your chance to find out just how good English sparkling wine can be.
Fizz Feast is is a true Celebration of Sparkling Wine & Artisan Food on Saturday 16 November 2019 at The Edinburgh Academy, 42 Henderson Row, Edinburgh. There are two sessions to choose from: 12-3pm and 4-7pm, and plenty of masterclasses.
