As part of the run-up to our fourth annual Fizz Feaston Saturday 16 November at Edinburgh Academy, we’re giving you a brief introduction to the fabulous food and fizz exhibitors lined up to tantalise taste buds and please palates.
One of the things we are keen to do at Fizz Feast is to introduce you to new wines and winemakers you may not have come across before, which is why we are delighted to introduce you to Hans Wirsching, a family-run business that has been making award-winning wine for generations in Bavaria.

The Hans Wirsching winery ranks among the best known and largest privately held wine estates in Franconia. Now in its 14th generation, the Wirsching family has been making wine since the 1630s. Hans Wirsching Sr laid the foundations for consistency and quality and in 1966 his sons, Dr Heinrich Wirsching and Hans Wirsching Jr took over and expanded the vineyards.
I was fortunate enough to visit Hans Wirsching whilst on the VDP Ambassador Programme this summer and I was instantly taken with their wines and of course the dynamic Andrea Wirsching, CEO of this family-run business. I'm therefore thrilled that she has agreed not only to show her wines at Fizz Feast but to come over herself. Andrea will be hosting a masterclass at 1.15pm at Fizz Feast, she has an infectous energy and is understandably truly passionate about her wines. Her knowledge of and enthusiasm for her favourite subject along with these stunning wines will make this a not-to-be-missed, fun-packed masterclass.

German wine has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years, but there is still much to learn about this country’s incredibly fine wines. Sylvaner is a variety which is highly underated yet the Franken region of Germany produces some stunning examples which age beautifully. It'll no doubt be a while before we get to see some of these in the UK but in the meantime look out for these wines. Amongst others, Andrea will be showing a Sylvaner Sekt NV which is made by the traditional bottle fermented method (as in Champagne) along with some interesting Secco wines and their interesting "Traubensecco"
