As part of the run-up to our fourth annual Fizz Feaston Saturday 16 November at Edinburgh Academy, we’re giving you a brief introduction to the fabulous food and fizz exhibitors lined up to tantalise taste buds and please palates.
Returning to Fizz Feast for the second year, Hoods Honey epitomises a family-run business that has brought craft and tradition into the 21st century. Makers of fine honey – which has been used in a number of recipes created by TV’s master baker Paul Hollywood - the company also produces a range of natural skincare, soaps and candles.

Founded by beekeeper George Hood, the East Lothian company has been producing honey since 1950. Almost 70 years on, they care for almost 13 million bees in what they describe as ‘the old-fashioned way’, carefully selecting sites where the bees will thrive. The family firm produces three distinctive types of honey – Blossom, Wildflower and Heather – and has won pretty much every award it can. Meanwhile the beeswax, a bi-product of beekeeping, has been used to fill the Great Seal of Scotland and has sealed every act of the Scottish Parliament to date.

George’s son, Stuart Hood, started beekeeping at an early age. Stuart, with his irrepressible energy and passion for the business has taken it to the next level by recently created range of natural skincare, beeswax candles and honey soaps, which come in a range of evocative scents including Apple & Cinnamon, Scots Pine, Rhubarb & Bramble, Wild Rose, and - the perfect pairing for Fizz Feast - Prosecco & Strawberry.
Beautifully packaged, there is everything from lip balm to body wash, so don’t forget your Christmas shopping list and get a few names ticked off.
Stuart will be holding a Beekeeping & Diversification Masterclass at Fizz Feast at 12.45pm which will is set to be superb.
