Lidl's current French Wine Tour is another great selection of wines and those we tasted last Saturday 24 July were all very well received.  We enjoyed two sparkling wines and four whites, all of which scored highly.  To add a bit of fun we included some from the current Wine Tour and some from Lidl's Core Range in our tasting.

It was great fun with Lidl's Lead Taster Richard Bampfield MW offering some valuable insights into the wines and why they were chosen.  We also had some valuable tips from Lidl's Chris Scott as to how to look out for even more bargains on the shelves.

At the end of the tasting everyone scored the wines which was interesting to compare against the scores Richard and his team gave the wines before the launch.  This event is the only one of its kind in the UK where wine lovers get to score the Lidl wines so it really shows which are the favourite wines amongst those who buy them.

The Viognier was not surprisingly the favourite and great that this grape has had such a successful comeback since 1985 when there were only 80 acres reported to be planted around the world.  In 2016 there were over 39,500 acres planted around the world.

Here are the results.  Those marked with an asterisk are from the current Wine Tour and the others are from Lidl's Core Range.  Our scores were out of 5 and the Lidl scores are out of 100;

We'll be having a similar tasting this Saturday 31 July of the Reds from the tour along with two Rosés.  If you'd like to join us there are still some tickets remaining.  It's just £10 to join and you choose which wines you'd like to taste along with us.  You can find all the details and book here.
