We had a lot of fun with Lidl's Lead Taster, Richard Bampfield MW showing these Lidl wines in the latest style of our Zoom tastings.  Most were from Lidl's latest the Summer Wine Tour range with the addition of the Pecorino from the Core Range.  After getting their ticket everyone given the list of wines we were tasting and it was up to them if they'd like to get one, two or all of the wines.  Alternatively, they could simply listen to what everyone else had to say about them.  Richard and I introduced each wine and those who had the wine tasted it and scored it out of 5. It was relaxed, fun and a great opportunity to get a genuinely impartial review of the range.  I’m delighted to announce the winner was the CEO Godello scoring 4.3.  A stunning wine especially for £7.99 – bursting with elegant tropical fruit – the closest many of us might get to Spanish Sunshine this summer! Closely behind, we were still in Spain with this (unusually oaked) Rías Baixas which scored an average of 4.2 out of 5.   Over to Italy, the Gruner Veltlinerfor those who managed to find a bottle since it's been popular, scored 4.1.  The Falanghina, with plenty of positive comments scored 4, Pecorino(from core range) scored 3.7 & the Malvasia, not so popular, sadly scored 2.6.

All in all it was a great tasting, showing many interesting indigenous grape varieties and all wines displaying unique characters.  Considering they were priced from £5.49 to £8.49 this was very encouraging.  Gone seem the days of tasteless, characterless cheap wines. We're looking forward to tasting the reds next Monday and due to the popularity of this tasting we've added another session so at the time of writing, tickets (only £10) are still available so why not join us by clicking here?  Master of Wine Richard Bampfield will be joining us again and it's a great opportunity to ask him any questions you may have regarding these wines.  It'll also be a unique chance to experience a completely honest, independent and impartial review of these popular Lidl wines.
