South African wines, however, are the ones to watch, coming in at number 6 with an impressive 2% increase in sales volume.   Portugal's flavourful and robust wines have captured the hearts and palates of the UK wine market, with an impressive 11.3%. This rise in popularity might propel Portugal to become one of the most sought-after wine-producing countries in the UK. As for grape varieties, Merlot remains the top seller, followed closely by Shiraz. But, don't underestimate the rising popularity of Malbec with a 28% increase in sales volume! Sauvignon Blanc is still the best seller and the most popular white wine, while Pinot Grigio is hot on its heels with an outstanding growth of +10%. Chardonnay comes in third place. The UK wine market is constantly evolving, and we are seeing some new wine making countries on the rise.
